Dish to close 300 Blockbuster stores

Dish Network Corp. will shutter about 300 Blockbuster stores in the coming weeks, resulting in a loss of about 3,000 employees, Dish spokesman John Hall said Monday.
The closures, which cover underperforming outlets or those that are nearing the end of their leases, will leave 500 Blockbuster stores in the U.S. The company has 26 locations in Colorado.
Dish “continues to see value in the Blockbuster brand, and we continue to analyze the store-level profitability as we have in the past,” Hall said.
Douglas County-based Dish acquired the video-rental chain out of bankruptcy for $320 million in 2011. Much in the way Amazon.com clobbered Borders bookstores, Netflix and other digital alternatives have pushed Blockbuster to the brink of death. – Read more
